    What is Defibrillator

    Defibrillator is a device which performs defibrillation. Defibrillation is a common treatment for life-threatening cardiac dysrhythmias and ventricular fibrillation. Defibrillation consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electric current (often called a countershock) to the heart. This depolarizes a critical mass of the heart muscle, terminates the dysrhythmia, and allows normal sinus rhythm.

    Usage Area of Defibrillator

    Defibrillators are used for eliminate fibrillation of heart due to VF / CT arhythmia in Emergency Rooms, Cardiology, Intensive Care Units and Operation Rooms.

    Working Principle of Defibrillator

    Defibrillator takes electrical energy from a battery system, which has previously stored as chemical energy, which can be supplied via an oscillator circuit, a high voltage transformer and a capacitor / coil reactive circuit with high capacity and inductance via external or internal electrodes via the rib cage is applied.

    Electrical defibrillation provides a certain level of ventricular stimulation. Due to the shock, the ventricles with fibrillation return to normal. The devices can be divided into two main groups: Monophasic and Biphasic. In monophasic ones, a one-way flowing (positive-phase) current is delivered to the chest wall. In biphasic defibrillators, the current has two-phase (positive and negative) phases. In biphasic, shaking is started with 120 J, 200 if no result is obtained, and 270 J in the next stage. The energy that should be given in biphasic devices is usually around 120-200 J when 360 J is based on monophasic devices, with different device to device.

    Almost all of today's devices have the potential to create Ventricular fibrillation, which is called Cardioversion, sensing the heart ECG and synchronizing to the R wave (allowing the shock to be applied when an amplitude value of the R wave in the signal is reached) and preventing current transmission during the T wave They have a feature that removes them.

    Instructions for Defibrillator

    Before Defibrillation, CPR is applied at least 5 times
    Turn Defibrillator ON
    Select 120-200 J for biphasic defibrillation, select 360 J for monophasic defibrillation using Energy button.
    Apply gel to electrodes There mustn't be gel connection between electrodes and electrodes shouldn't be held together with one hand.
    Electrodes are placed to thorax, in anterior apex position.
    Evaluate cardiac rhythm from monitor.
    If rhytm is VF or VT without pulse device is ready to charge by pressing charge button. Paddles must be charged only when they're on patients chest.
    Press hard paddles to patient's chest
    Press both discharge buttons simultaneously.
    After discharging, apply CPR 5 more times.
    Evaluate cardiac rhythm and ECG signal from monitor.
    If rhytm is VF or VT without pulse defibrillation is applied again.
    Defibrillation proccess can be repeated 4-5 times

    Warnings about Defibrillator

    Battery must be always charged, when it's used, you must recharge it again.
    Monitor, electrodes, cables must be checked.
    Electrodes must be cleaned and put in their nest. Otherwise gel hardens and may be hazardous in next use.
