    What is an ECG Device

    An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. An ECG shows the heart's electrical activity as line tracings on paper. The spikes and dips in the tracings are called waves.

    Working principle of ECG

    In a conventional 12-lead ECG, 10 electrodes are placed on the patient's limbs and on the surface of the chest. The overall magnitude of the heart's electrical potential is then measured from 12 different leads and is recorded over a period of time. In this way, the overall magnitude and direction of the heart's electrical depolarization is captured at each moment throughout the cardiac cycle. The graph of voltage versus time produced by this noninvasive medical procedure is referred to as an electrocardiogram.

    Medical Use of ECG

    The overall goal of performing electrocardiography is to obtain information about the structure and function of the heart. Medical uses for this information are varied and generally relate to having a need for knowledge of the structure and/or function.

    ECG Types

    From the point of traceability, ECG may have 1, 3, 6 or 12 channels. It depends on intended use.

    Instructions for ECG

    Cables and conductors of the defibrillator should be checked before placing the ECG electrodes. The patient is informed about the operation to be performed. Electrode locations are determined according to the operation to be performed. It is necessary to clean and prepare skin to improve the signal quality to avoid the interference of the electrical currents on skin.

    Procedures for preparing and cleaning the skin in male patients are as follows: The hairs on the area where the electrode is to be applied are shaved to ensure adequate adhesiveness and to prevent irritation when electrodes are removed. Wet and oily skin is cleaned and dried before the electrode is glued. The surface of the skin in the area where the electrode sticks is gently wiped with an alcohol gas cloth to increase the electrical current and signal quality in the skin. The skin is cleaned and ECG electrodes are adhered to the specified places.

    If necessary, a gel may be applied under the electrodes to increase some conductivity. Once the electrodes are placed, they are covered with a liquid-impervious plaster or other covering to risk wetting with surgical solutions. After the electrodes are inserted and the cables are properly connected, the defibrillator is controlled by adjusting the leads.     Warnings about ECG

    During proccess, make sure that electrodes are attached correctly to the patient and gel or water must be applied between electrodes and the patient.
